OurTime Review: How Does it Measure Up?
• Can search for nearby singles for free.
• Easy to use and navigate
• Iffy refund policy
• Inappropriate matching
OurTime is an online dating website aimed at users over the age of 50 which has been advertising on television since 2011.
Claims & Features
- Largest dating site for singles over 50
- Search and flirt for free
There are several billing options when signing up for OurTime. You can get one month for $29.99 or up to 6 months for as little as $89.94 ($14.99 per month).
Below is the latest commercial for OurTime, which has been airing as of mid-2015.
OurTime first appeared on the scene in 2011. It has regularly advertised in the years since, with 2013 being its most heavily advertised year. Although it is a site aimed at the 50+ crowd, it is possible for singles as young as 18 to use the service.
As with other dating sites, you can search for singles in your area, using a variety of criteria. You’ll also be presented 5 daily matches, which in our experience seemed somewhat random and inappropriately matched to the profile that we created. There are some criteria which you can include in your profile (such as religion) which cannot be used as a search filter.
One prominent feature of OurTime is called “I’m Interested.” Here you are shown a photograph of another user and asked if you are interested in that person. Selecting “yes” will send the person a flirt.
Although you can search and flirt with other singles, you cannot communicate with them unless you are a paid member. This includes internal messaging and chats – even though a chat screen is prominently displayed even for unpaid members.
If you choose to cancel – or if OurTime terminates your subscription – you will not be eligible to receive a refund. Be sure to read their terms carefully before signing up.
Readers around the internet have suspected that OurTime employs the use of fake profiles to give the site the appearance of a higher population, and possibly to lure people into subscribing. There is, however, no way to prove such allegations which are purely speculation. You may want to read the 100+ comments here which date back two years.
Although there are countless dating sites, the primary competitors to OurTime are Match, eHarmony, Plenty of Fish, and OK Cupid. Match and eHarmony are subscription services, while Plenty of Fish and OK Cupid are free.
We found OurTime to offer a moderate dating website experience, although a large portion of local singles could also be found on free dating websites such as Plenty of Fish. Be sure to understand their billing and refund policies before signing up.
